Biotechnological research direction of microbiology is a group specializing in the R&D of microbiology under the leading of Prof. Yang Qian. During the 8th, 9th and 10th Five Years Key Programs for Science and Technology Development of China, this group has undertaken a lot of programs supported by the national and local government, which include 2 projects supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China, 2 projects supported by Ministry of Education of China, 1 project supported by Chinese National Programs for High Technology Research and Development (863 program), 1 Key Program for Science and Technology Development of Heilongjiang province, 3 scientific and technological projects of Heilongjiang province, 1 Science and Technology Cooperation Project of China and Thailand and two local key task projects. Probe into environmental protection, biological control, bioengineering has acquired much highly effective production. In the aspect of biological control of plant disease, the group has cooperated with Dr. Dusanee in King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang of Thailand since 1994, to explore the mechanisms of biological control of many plant soil-spread diseases by some important fungi such as Chaetomiumglobosum and Trichodermaharzianum, and also to observe the effect of controlling fungi diseases on fruit trees and vegetables. While in gene engineering, the group first successfully transformed the resistant gene ofantiseptic benzimidazole intoChaetomiumglobosum and Trichodermaharzianum. This accomplishment has resolved the problem which explored more than ten years in the world, coming up to international advanced level. In genome research of biological control fungi, high quality cDNA libraries of Chaetomiumglobosum and Trichodermaharzianum during the period of mycelium have already been constructed, and 6505 random-selected clones have been sequenced and high quality expressed sequence tags (EST), logged in Genbank, have been analyzed by means of bioinformatics. Therefore, the accomplishment may offer train of thoughts and tech support for further research of functional genome of other biological control fungi.

The research group have published more than 130 papers and 8 monographs, applied for 5 patents, identified 5 items of research accomplishment, and hosted international conferences for 4 times.
