From September 27 to October 1,2026, a delegation led by Associate Professor Cong Hua and nine doctoral students from the School of Life Science and Technology visited universities in Singapore for a program of academic exchange under the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) Outstanding Graduate International Exchange Program.
Through laboratory and research institute visits, research seminars, academic lectures and discussions, and other activities, the delegation gained firsthand exposure to the dynamic research culture and academic environment of leading universities. The visit significantly broadened the doctoral students’ international academic perspectives and helped establish connections for deeper cooperation between HIT and leading universities in the life sciences.
At the Department of Biomedical Engineering, College of Design and Engineering, NUS, the faculty and students held in-depth discussions with experts in biomedical engineering and biomedical sciences. The two sides also discussed talent development, joint educational programs, and collaborative research. Both sides expressed willingness to further deepen cooperation under the existing National University of Singapore (NUS) 3+1+1 joint educational program and to actively explore additional areas of cooperation and exchange.
At the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS, the delegation held in-depth academic exchanges with experts and young scholars in biochemistry. Prof. Yu of the Department of Biochemistry organized a lecture titled ‘Genetic Mechanisms of Lipid Metabolism and Atherosclerosis’, which prompted lively discussion among researchers and doctoral students from both universities and fostered a vibrant academic atmosphere. The two sides also reviewed their prior collaboration and expressed their willingness to build on existing achievements across multiple areas, further strengthen cooperation, and actively expand research collaboration and new educational cooperation programs.
During the visit to Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), the doctoral students gained a deeper understanding of the university’s history, overall academic environment, current research strengths in the life sciences, and international research collaboration and support mechanisms. The visit also deepened their understanding of interdisciplinary integration in the life sciences and broadened their international research horizons.
The visit further strengthened HIT’s partnerships with leading universities in Singapore and laid a solid foundation for research collaboration and international education cooperation in frontier and interdisciplinary areas of the life sciences.
