To advance the university's internationalization strategy and broaden students' global outlook, in September 2025, Professor Shi Shuliang from the School of Life Science and Technology led a delegation of doctoral students on an academic exchange visit to the University of Oslo, Norway. During their stay, the delegation engaged in extensive and in-depth academic exchanges and collaborative seminars with distinguished scholars, including Professor Håvard J. Haugen (Head of the Department of Biomaterials, Faculty of Dentistry) and his team from the University of Oslo, Professor Malcolm Snead from the University of Kansas (USA), Professor Candan Tamerler from the University of Southern California (USA), and Dr. Yan Hongji ( Principal Investigator) from Uppsala University, Sweden.

As a world-renowned institution and a leading university in Northern Europe, the University of Oslo is widely recognized for its exceptional educational system, high-level scientific research, integration of academia and industry, and interdisciplinary collaboration between medicine and engineering. During the visit, the delegation toured research facilities and the dental hospital, and participated in joint academic presentations and discussion sessions. In the academic exchange segment, the students demonstrated thorough preparation and expressed themselves fluently, fully showcasing their communication skills. Their academic accomplishments were highly commended by the attending scholars. The discussions covered various areas, such as joint student training and scientific research collaboration, leading to preliminary cooperation plans and a future action framework. Professor Haugen also compiled the outcomes of the exchange into a report titled Strengthening China–Norway Academic Cooperation in the Spirit of Strategic Autonomy, which was submitted to the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Norway.

This visit proved to be a fruitful and successful exchange initiative. It deepened the delegation’s understanding of the higher education system in Northern Europe, offered valuable insights into the establishment of research frameworks centered on medicine–engineering integration, and inspired students’ interest and confidence in pursuing innovative exploration. Furthermore, it provided important reference points for the internationalization of the School of Life Science and Technology in its future development, talent cultivation, and disciplinary development.
