1. Introduction to the School of Life Science and Technology
Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT; http://www.hit.edu.cn/), directly under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, operates across three campuses in Harbin, Weihai, and Shenzhen. Founded in 1920, HIT is among the first key universities under the national 211 Project, one of the nine priority universities(C9) under the first phase of the 985 Project, and a Class A institution in China’s Double First-Class Initiative.
The discipline of Life Sciences at HIT originated from the Department of Life Science and Engineering established in 1995. The School of Life Science and Technology was founded in 2011, followed by the HIT Center for Life Science in 2016 and the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine in 2024. After nearly three decades of development, the discipline now comprises two doctoral programs (Biology and Biomedical Engineering) and two postdoctoral research stations. It offers two undergraduate majors: Biotechnology and Bioengineering.
The School hosts world-class shared research platforms, including biological electron microscopy (Cryo-EM, TEM, SEM), image analysis, proteomics, space life sciences, and laboratory animal facilities.
